Fight #2 – Tsui-Jen Cunanan (Phoenix Combat Academy, 2-1 record)  vs. Mollie Estes (Team American Jiu Jitsu - Kansas City, MO, 6-0 record)

This fight was only the second fight of the night, but ended quickly… showing that Women have skills too. After the sound of the opening bell, Tsui-Jen Cunanan came out aggressive, throwing strikes as Mollie Estes intelligently tried to tie Tsui-Jen’s hands up in a clinch. The 2 fighters quickly separated and exchanged when Tsui-Jen threw an explosive overhand right that sent Mollie to the floor. Tsui-Jen takes advantage of the situation and goes for the guillotine choke that forces Mollie to tap. The fight ends at 1 minute and 47 seconds of the 1st round by Guillotine Choke – Winner: Tsui-Jen Cunanan, who improves her record to 3-1.

Fight #3 - Sarah Marang (Combat Fitness – Boise, ID, 0-0 record) vs. Michelle Velebit (Saga/Alive MMA – Portland, OR, 0-1 record)

Sarah and Michelle had an all out 3 round war on the ground.  After every bell each fighter came out striking and went straight for takedowns. Submission attempts were not on the mind of either fighter, but rather the Ground and Pound. Both women fought their hearts out to gain full mount on the ground with intentions of raining punches down on the other. At the end of all 3 rounds, Michelle Velebit stood with her hand raised as the victor with a split decision.

Fight #5 – Jenny Yum (Team Hard Target – Charlotte, NC, 4-1 record) vs. Nicole Hess (Mikido MMA – Alexandria, VA, 3-1 record)

The 2 fighters spent most of the time on the ground for all 3 rounds, with Jenny being the dominant and more aggressive fighter. Although Nicole attempted arm bar submissions in the first and third rounds, it wasn’t enough to panic Jenny into a bad situation. Jenny seemed relaxed and clear minded during the entire match, giving her the win after 3 rounds via a Unanimous Decision and proving that she indeed was no easy target for Nicole Hess.

Fight #6 – Lindsay Jones (Jacksons MMA – Albuquerque, NM, 0-0 record) vs. Trish Clarke (805 Fight Club – Edmonton, OK, 0-0 record)

This fight was another 3 round fight that had both women on the ground most of the time.  The women fought for top position on the ground most of the fight, with Lindsay Jones being the more dominant fighter on the floor. Lindsey Jones wins the Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds.

Fight #9 – Amanda Lauland (Power MMA – New Orleans, LA, 0-1 record) vs. Jocelyn Lybarger (Team Awesome MMA – Irvine, CA, 0-0 record)

At the sound of the bell, Jocelyn Lybarger goes for first blood, literally, as she starts off the fight with a Superman Punch that lands on Amanda’s nose, immediately causing it to bleed.  The punch shakes Amanda up and both fighters end up on the ground and then quickly back up on their feet. The ref has to stop the fight momentarily to have the doctor check Amanda’s nose, but the fight goes on. In the second round, Amanda looked like she would submit Jocelyn with a Rear Naked Choke attempt, but Jocelyn was able to break free to go onto the third and final round.  Although Amanda scored the first takedown in the third round, Jocelyn was able to get top position and keep Amanda on her back for most of the round. At the end of 3 rounds, Jocelyn Lybarager wins the first fight of her career with a Unanimous Decision.

Fight #10 – Emily Peters-Kagan (Jacksons MMA – Albuquerque, NM, 2-0 record) vs. Ashley Weakley (Team Leo Dalla – Chantilly, VA, 2-0 record)

Both women fought hard to improve their identical 2-0 records. Although Emily was able to score takedowns throughout the fight, Ashley seemed more relaxed and controlled the pace of the fight. On their feet, Ashley was the more aggressive striker and able to avoid a lot of Emily’s takedown attempts. On the ground, Ashley was able to defend herself from receiving any damage while on her back. In the end, Ashley Weakley improves her record to 3-0 with a Unanimous Decision victory.

Fight #12 – Stephanie Eggink (West Coast Fight Club – Bellingham, WA, 0-0 record) vs. Jillian Lybarger (Siege MMA – Peoria, AZ, 2-2 record)

The fight started off with tension in the air. At the opening bell, Jillian Lybarger put her hand out in good sportsmanship, but Stephanie Eggink shook her head and decided that she wasn’t going to play nice. The crowd wasn’t pleased, and shouts favoring Jillian and boos towards Stephanie became overwhelming.  Jillian immediately takes Stephanie to the ground but Stephanie is able to lock Jillian up and throw punches from her back. Stephanie was able to control the ground game, flip over and pin Jillian down where she unleashed strikes from the top, but was unable to finish Jillian before the sound of the bell. In round 2, Stephanie proved that the ground was where she wanted to be, attempting to submit Jillian, with Jillian narrowly escaping an arm bar attempt. Round 3 the women decided to show each other respect, and this time, both touched gloves before Stephanie caught Jillian with a nice hook. They go to the ground where Jillian takes top position but is stuck in Stephanie’s guard. Stephanie is able to reverse position and find opportunity to sink in a triangle choke that forces Jillian to tap. Stephanie proves she has skills on the ground, and earns the first win of her career with a win by Triangle Choke, 1 minute and 13 seconds into the 3rd round.
