At Tuff-N-Uff Amateur Fighting Championships on August 6, 2010 the women showed that they were just as tough as the guys. All the women that fought showed their heart, skills and determination, which made it a night of fights that did not disappoint.
Fight #3 – Tsui-Jen Cunanan (Phoenix Combat Academy, 3-1 record) vs. Emily Peters-Kagan (Jacksons MMA – Albuquerque, NM, 2-1 record)
It was a 3 round war with both women showing power in their punches. Although Emily went down twice in the first round, she kept her composure and proved that she was there to fight. Tsui-Jen picked her shots wisely, and the 2 fighters remained on their feet for most of the fight. At the end of Round 3, Emily Peters improved her record by a split decision win over Tsui-Jen.
Fight #5 – Jenny Yum (Team Hard Target – Charlotte, NC, 5-1 record) vs. Lindsay Jones (Jacksons MMA – Albuquerque, NM, 1-0 record)
Once again, the women left no doubt in anyone’s mind on why they were in the ring. In the first round, Jenny Yum came out aggressive and determined. She started her battle with a leg kick followed by a front kick, but before Lindsay could find her balance, Jenny executed a spinning back fist that landed across Lindsay’s face knocking her out. Without even breaking a sweat, Jenny Yum adds another win to her record by knockout in the first round.
Fight #8 – Jillian Lybarger (Siege MMA – Peoria, AZ, 2-3 record) vs. Ashley Weakley (Team Leo Dalla – Chantilly, VA, 3-0 record)
In the opening round of this fight, Ashley Weakley came out strong and focused. She landed a head kick that Jillian was able to take. Jillian immediately went for the takedown. Ashley sprawled and was able to take control on the ground where she found a perfect opportunity to put Jillian in a Darce choke. Ashley tightened up the choke and Jillian showed her will to hold on, but eventually was forced to tap. Ashley Weakley defeats Jillian Lybarger in the first round by submission.
Fight #11 – Autumn Richardson (Team Quest – Temecula, CA, 1-1 record) vs. Christy Tada (Elite 1 – Las Vegas, NV 2-5 record)
Both women came out striking wildly. Autumn was able to take Christy down where she immediately took top position, raining down punches. Christy was blocking most of the punches, but was not able to return any. The referee stops the bout in 1 minute and 17 seconds of the first round, with the victory going to Autumn Richardson.
Fight #13 – Stephanie Eggink (West Coast Fight Club – Bellingham, WA, 1-0 record) vs. Katie Klimanski (Tapout – Las Vegas, NV, 0-0 record)
This was one of the most memorable and impressive fights of the night. Stephanie Eggink proved that she had ground skills at her last Tuff-N-Uff match, defeating her opponent in the 3rd round with a triangle choke, but Katie Klimaski was prepared and was ready to go the distance. These ladies spent most of the 3 rounds on the ground, with Stephanie attempting numerous submissions, but unable to keep Katie down. After 3 rounds of continuous back and forth action, Stephanie Eggink adds another win to her record, winning the match by decision.
